Traveling the Ice Road

Driving the Tuktoyaktuk Winter Road just weeks before it shut down in April, 2017. At only 177km long, you'd be surprised to experience multiple changes in visibility and weather along the way, but that's how it was for me. I got lucky on this particular afternoon on my way back from Tuktoyaktuk to Inuvik, to experience such beautiful, clear skies and calm enough wind that I was able to successfully fly my drone (just days before the wind was well over a steady 56+ KPH). I was amazed at rich blue and green colors in the ice, and the depth of the cracks as well. I also will never forget the sound the ice would make in places as we drove across it.
